SBIM provides life skills, emotional support and urgently needed resources to families in Herndon and the surrounding areas.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Liaison Program

The liaison program identifies some of the most vulnerable families and helps them make a positive, systemic change. These families will be assigned a trusted liaison who will use SBIM resources to provide food, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and emotional support to children on a biweekly basis. We serve families as a whole by supporting their physical and emotional well being.

Life Skills Events

We hold our life skills events monthly from October through May. They are open to local elementary-aged students. During these events, we highlight a theme such as mental and physical health, self esteem, healthy relationships, creativity, or gratitude and take the kids through a series of fun and engaging activities to help them learn to be closer to themselves, their families, and their friends. A key part of our life skills events is fostering the mentoring relationships between our volunteers and the children, giving each child an opportunity to learn important life skills while experiencing a valuable relationship with an adult. Food Pantry

In partnership with Floris United Methodist Church, BRAWS, Cornerstones, Food For Others and generous donations, we are able to operate a small food pantry at our Herndon location to serve the most vulnerable in our community. This location also supports children emotionally by providing mentoring and comfort items that provide support to improve their mental health.

School Partnerships

Our goal is to reach even more children and their families by providing tools and resources to establish partnerships where needs exist.
