Trauma Comfort Bags
When children experience trauma, the SBIM comfort bags provide calming and comforting items like journals/pens, cozy blankets, cuddly stuffed animals, sound machines and other stress relief items.
Comfort Bags
Many children in our community face significant trauma, and it’s essential to address their emotional wellbeing during such challenging times. For these kids, having comfort items can make a world of difference, offering a sense of safety and stability amidst uncertainty. Due to unstable living situations, these children may need to move on short notice, often transitioning between different homes. Providing them with bags filled with their favorite blanket and stuffed animal creates a sense of continuity and familiarity. These items serve as tangible reminders of security, helping to soothe their anxieties and foster resilience as they navigate the difficulties of their circumstances. By ensuring they have these comfort items readily accessible, we empower them to carry a piece of home with them wherever they go, supporting their emotional healing and vulnerability.
Emotional Support Activity Bags
SBIM provides fun, monthly activities to children to support emotional development, help occupy time, and relieve stress.
Art Packs
Summer can be a lonely time for kids who don’t have the resources to engage in activities outside the home. SBIM sponsors summer day camps to send dozens of kids to camp to help them develop important social, emotional, and cognitive skills, all while creating memories that last a lifetime.
Fall/Winter Packs
Going back to school in the fall is an exciting time for most children. SBIM provides hundreds of students with a backpack full of the supplies they need to start-off the school year successfully.
Sleep Packs
Many children share their living spaces with siblings or adults, which can mean dealing with crying babies or older siblings up late studying. Some might even find themselves sleeping on sofas in common areas. This can result in insufficient sleep, negatively impacting their physical and emotional wellbeing. For vulnerable children, this lack of rest can exacerbate feelings of anxiety and stress, further hindering their emotional health. As a consequence, their academic performance and behavior in school may decline. Comfort items can offer a sense of safety and reassurance, helping these children get the restful sleep they need and support their emotional resilience.
Child & Teen Hygiene Packs
Many families in the community experience financial insecurity and struggle to put food on the table and pay rent. The purchase of hygiene items often falls to the bottom of their priorities, leaving children to go to school with unwashed hair, chapped and cracked lips, acne breakouts. or in need of deodorant. This not only affects their physical appearance but also makes them feel vulnerable and isolated. The emotional distress caused by being ostracized and bullied can have lasting impacts on their self-esteem and mental well-being. For these children and teens, the items shown are not just basic necessities but are considered luxuries; they represent a sense of dignity and belonging that they are otherwise unable to access.

Snack Packs
Our partner schools are provided snacks as many of the students are experiencing extreme hardship and/or trauma. Most students are on free or reduced lunch, and some students have lunch as early as 10:30 am or as late as 1:30 pm, causing them to be hungry, agitated, and unable to focus on school work. Teachers share these snack packs with their students, which facilitates learning.
Immediate and Everyday Needs
Donations of in-kind goods like snacks, personal hygiene items or infant items/diapers/wipes help us spend less on these items and put more funds toward our programs.
Individual items can be purchased from Amazon and delivered directly to SBIM, or, shop and drop the items at our Family Support Center.
