Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston Honors 2024 Citizen of the Year
The Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston honored its 55th recipient, Renee Gorman, with the 2024 Citizen of the Year. Renee Gorman is the heart and soul behind the transformative non-profit organization She Believes In Me, founded in 2018. Rotary recognized Gorman for her commitment to children and families. Her vision nurtured a community initiative of hope supported by over a hundred volunteers.

Happy Thanksgiving!
While preparing the thanksgiving meals distribution, the SBIM leadership was presented with a generous donation from the German Armed Forces Command (Joerg Dronia), the German Office of Defense Administration (Kathrin Schroeder), and some of their awesome staff who helped with the heavy lifting. We are so grateful for their support!
Also present were the Herndon Mayor (Sheila Olem), Fairfax County Supervisor of Hunter Mill District (Walter L. Alcorn) and two staff members who also joined us for a busy day of work and fun.
‘Doing Good Month’ by National Women in Roofing
The DC Council collected “Summer Activity Kit” donations which are designed to entertain children who are on summer break – with no access to summer camp, babysitters or extracurricular activities. We aimed to collect items that promote physical activity and creativity. This was our first community service event and I feel it was perfect as it aligns with our council’s mission -educating and serving our communities – with a focus on women and children.

Smiles For Centreville gave a generous donation to SBIM and sent the clear message from the Dr. And staff , they care about our community in need and want to make a difference!

Partners Helping Partners
Our Ignite Partner, She Believes in Me, has a mantra on their website that reads, “It’s time to say: Not in my backyard.” This call-to-action reminds people that they have the power to transform their community and the lives of children.
Individuals heeded the call. Now, thanks to relationship building, hard work, and mission flexibility, She Believes in Me touts a list of partners helping them help vulnerable children.
The organization received a large space in Herndon’s Worldgate Centre, where they can operate their food pantry and assemble emotional support packets that accompany food deliveries. The space has been donated by Rappaport who manages and leases more than 160 properties in the region. Learn more about She Believes in Me’s community partners.
We thank them for supporting FCPS and others in the community. Fairfax County Public Schools seeks and it’s easy to become a Needs-Based Donations Partner .

She Believes in Me teams up with Food For Others to distribute food to those in need
She Believes in Me has joined with Food For Others, a Northern Virginia non-profit that supplies food for those in need, to run a series of “pop up” distributions at Floris United Methodist Church.

Sanctuary, a digital magazine dedicated to empowering and inspiring women to live their best lives through stories, education and art, interviewed our own Renee Gorman about the She Believes in Me mission as well as our response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
Food for Others partners with SBIM to start food pantry
She Believes in Me primarily works to empower and teach life skills to girls but they’ve added food distributions to their services to help families struggling as a result of the pandemic.
